How can I get a government job that allows telecommuting?

I would really like to work from home but enjoy the benefits of telecommuting with the government. Also, does anyone know of possible contracting positions with the federal government. I hear contractors tend to make more money than actual civil service.

Here is a link

http://www.washingtontechnology.com/online/1_1/24664-1.html

which will be useful to you, and the extracts from it are as follows :-

"The interim rule implements a provision of the Services Acquisition Reform Act of 2003, which requires that contractors be allowed to telecommute as they work on contracts from executive agencies"

"The interim rule, which goes into effect today, says agencies generally cannot discourage a contractor from allowing its employees to telecommute. It says an agency cannot include in a solicitation a requirement that prohibits telecommuting unless the contracting officer has determined in writing that the requirements of the agency cannot be met if telecommuting is allowed"

to get a contract with the government you're gonna have to start a business, get it registered, then bid on contracts. be sure to do your research first though. there are a lot of businesses competing for these contracts.

if you're just looking for a telecommuting job, there's a free listing at http://babymommahustle.blogspot.com

telecommuting and gov't service is very, very rare. a contractor can vary in many levels. On most cases, you do the same and are treated the same as a reg. worker. If you are a contractor because you are providing consulting or services, it is a different world because you are a business. for telecommuting I would look elsewhere. But hardly anything beats the long term benefits of the gov't. However, the private sector has the money and the telecommuting possibility. Also, a company will want you there for a while before they let you work from home. You have to prove that you are trustworthy and mobile.

good luck
