What's it called when the government takes over the reigns of the economy?

Why wouldn't a company simply be allowed to declare bankruptcy and restructure? Why all of the sudden government intervention?

If the government did it and the people (majority) wanted it, it is socialism.

If the government did it against the people's wishes, it is called fascism.

Bankruptcy does nothing to "help" the governement. The government’s policy is, "never allow a crisis to go to waste” (Rahm Emanuel). Accordingly, the economic crisis has allowed governments to expand in budget and power!

It's called being forced into action by 8 years of criminal fiscal irresponsibility by the previous administration.

Are you willing to lose your job and your home and your savings and become impoverished as a result of these monster companies declaring bankruptcy and failing? If so, then I guess we could give it a try. Personally, I'm not willing to take that chance, but to each his own

Imagine the entire planet under the control of a secret society that believes its members are the perfect race and the rest of us commoners are mere laborers, less than human. If that grand scheme could be pulled off, imagine how rich and powerful those members would be. Impossible you say? Keep thinking that.

Sounds a little like the Venezuelan government. Or Cuba, or Iran. We are sunk when government can come in and take over private companies. What next? The newspapers, TV.

government overstepped it's boundaries... they are trying to expand... now we know they are not in it for us, but for themselves.. hmm, could it be socialism?
