What do you think the government should and should not stick its nose in?

Oh course, all this comes down to lobbying in one way or another, Im sure but what do you think the government should and should not regulate? I was thinking today, why are we making all TV digital a law, but meeting none of te needs of the people in the most basic ways?

That just sparked the question. But what are some examples of things that you think that the government should and should not regulate? And why?

Government should be upholding/enforcing the Constitution, not ignore/violate it.

Government should be dealing with foreign diplomacy, not dealing with foreign aid, or intervene militarily.

Government should be minimized and transparent, not expand, not privatize its meetings, and not bloated.

Government should stay out of education, health care, abortion, religion, and personal issues, not intervene with laws and rules.

Government (the Congress) should be coining gold/silver as stated in the Constitution, not give its power away to a private bank.

i could be here all night telling you what the government should stay out of! but some recent examples are laws telling us which toilets to use and which light bulbs to use.... that's just ridiculous!

The government has very limited specific powers (the federal constitution is very short, as were most state constitutions), and everything else is supposed to be left up to us. providing a fairly elected representative government, a stable system of equally enforced laws regarding private property, a justice system, and of course common defense (god bless the military) is pretty much the beginning and the end of it.

The government should do anything it can to look after it's people.

To list everything would be too much.

I think that they shouldn't make TV all digital, suddenly. but it is their responsibility to gradually change it over. If they don't do it who will?

Free health care

Government should provide free education

stay out of religion and personal issues

Oh, that's obvious.

Government's one priority should be foreign diplomacy.

Quite frankly, that's the only thing they should be doing.
