What exactly are the requirements for the Government tax return bonus?

I have heard many different stories about this Government tax return bonus. If you made under 50,000 how much of a bonus do i get, if any? I got a check today but it wasn't even for 500.

The tax rebate is based on your 2007 earnings and Federal Income Tax liability.

If you are not a dependent, you would be eligible to receive a rebate of up to $600 if you paid that much in Federal Income Tax. If you only paid $350 in taxes (less than the $600 rebate limit), you only get back $350. If you had earned income or social security of at least $3000, you would get at least the minimum rebate of $300. Similarly, couples filing jointly can receive up to $1200. If you qualify for a rebate, you will receive $300 for each dependent child under 17.

Use the Kiplinger rebate tax calculator (link below) to compute your rebate.

for one you must file a return. then if you are single 600.00, married is 1200.00, a qualified child is 300.00 more per child.

If you are a dependent, you aren't eligible. If you didn't file a 2007 federal income tax return, you aren't eligible.

Otherwise if you filed a 2007 return with at least $3000 income, you will be eligible for a check for at least $300 since your income is below the cutoff. If the net federal income tax you paid for the year (the refund you got doesn't count toward that, it's just what they kept) is more than $300,

then you would get the amount of the tax up to a maximum of $600.

You can go to http://www.irs.gov/app/espc/ to calculate your exact amount of your stimulus rebate.

check out www.irs.gov and use the stimulus payment calculator to figure out.

The check you got was your refund sent by the IRS. The stimulus payments come from a different branch of the government and will come out in May, June or July...

Most important requirement is that you file a Federal Tax Return.

the checks will not be mailed out till May.
