What government assistance can my wife and I get for having twins in Michigan?

My wife and I just found out we are having twins. We do not make a ton of money and I was wondering if there is any government assistance that we may qualify for. We live in Michigan and I am willing to get a night job if we need to for stuff, but any help out there would be great.

Wow what a d***k!! I have WIC and food stamps because it's people like HIM who take our jobs to where we can't afford anything!! Now if you were an illegal immigrant I would take his side, but yeah listen to the other person. She's got the right idea. WIC, foodstamps, medicaid, etc. Go to your local health and welfare and fill out an application. Make sure to bring in you and your wife's ids, ss cards, proof of imployment (your last two pay stubs), proof of address, you and your wife's birth certificates, and I think that's it. If you don't take these, they won't help you as much and will just ask you to come back at a later time. They will be able to tell you. Or if anything, call them first and ask what the income limit is for applying for these services. It really is quite easy though. Good luck!!

Dont pay attention to the loser above me.... Im sure twins were not in your mind, so things can get tight. You should be able to apply for welfare. Although that is temporary it will help you for a while. You can also get WIC. WIC will pay for all the formula for both children, and you can get Cheese, juice, eggs, cereal, tuna, carrots, peanut butter. Your wife can get WIC now, and they give her food. So try those for now. Things will work out, just cut back on certain things and save. You will be fine.

I live in Michigan. The only way you'll know if you qualify is to go to your local office of Department of Human Services and fill out the paperwork. Look in your phone book in Government Listings under the State Government heading. You should find, alphabetically, the phone number for your local Human Services office. There is a lot of paperwork and not much money available. Your wife and babies may qualify for WIC. I have been a licensed child care provider in my home for 21 years. I have cared for several families (all single moms) who qualified for assistance for child care costs. Even with the pitiful amount they made at barely minimum wage jobs (sometimes 2 or 3) the percentage of child care the state covered was not a lot. There are lots of things you can do to help cut costs when you have children. There are various organizations supporting parents of multiple births. We have a chapter of Moms of Multiples in our area that has regular "swaps" of toys, clothing, and equipment. Ask at your obstetrician's office for a list of resources. When you begin interviewing pediatricians, they will also have resources to help parents of twins. Most "stuff" can be found at resale shops from clothing to strollers. Save for new car seats, though, as the safety is questionable if a used car seat was in the car during an accident. Be sure to check the safety of a used crib as well. Most of the major retailers have baby items on sale throughout the year. Meijer, Target, K-Mart, and JCPenney regularly have sales on baby items. A warehouse store such as Sam's or Costco can be a money saver on diapers and wipes. Children are expensive, but there are many ways to keep the cost down, including buying store brand instead of name brand items. Unless your income is near poverty level, you probably won't get much in the way of government assistance. Try doing a search online for something like "money saving tips for raising twins".

Why would you choose to have children if you can't afford them? When you seek government assistance, who do you think has to help pay for your kids? That would be me and the other tax payers so no I do not know of any government programs to assist you.
