What is the difference between government and politics?

I want to know the main differences between government and politics.

Politics has to do with the way government is run; someone's political views reflect their opinion as to how large/small, involved/uninvolved a government should be. The government itself consists of the control of military, civil infrastructure (courts, police, etc.), and public works like roads, schools, etc. The government also, on some level, institutes social programs and regulates the economy. Once again, politics answers the question of how all of this should be handled or take place.

Politics is the job application; government is the job.
