There are two main parties, Democratic and Republican. I beleive this does tie into seperation of powers, because in the US, every vote counts and both sides are listened to on all issues.
Republicans- they take a more CONSERVATIVE approach to the constitution (i.e. Right to bear arms).
Democrats- they take a more LIBERAL approach to the Constituiton, i.e. allowing for gay marriage).
Economics and national defense mainly.
The Church Nazis keep trying to thrust religion into the mix, but most people are too smart for them.
