What's the difference between the government and a mafia family?

I'm struggling to see any difference between the government and an organised crime family.

Protection racketeering, extortion and robbery. It seems like the government legalises these things and just gives them different titles.

Am I wrong?

In a mafia family you gotta have a little respect...badda bing, badda boom.....

Its a pity that the British electorate don't take on board your comment. No, you are not wrong, the Labour Party under Blair instigated the mafioso and his cohorts are carrying on likewise.Until we get rid of this government we can expect to be paying out protection money but not getting the value the marjority of us deserve.

you're completely right vivi.... here in Italy the only difference is that a criminal when is caught goes to jail... the politician (tks to his strong connections in Mafia world) doesn't even go to court .... that's incredible...!! can you imagine what kind of people is leading our country ???

there is one big difference, if the mafia is a threat to you or scares you you can run to the government for protection but if the government does you have no where to run for protection.

other than that I can't think of any difference.

RRRR

The Mafia knows what they,re doing

Once you get down into the double-digits it probably appears that way.

When you think about it they are quite similar, for example both have their groundtroops to deal with people who don't see things their way.

Oh yes a hell of difference. The Mafia kills you and leaves a horses head in your bed. The government is sneaky it waits for an NHS hospital or terrorists bomb to kill you and you don't even get a complimentary horses head.. Poor joke about the NHS those people do a fantastic work.

The Mafia can "fire" its employees for incompetence. Try getting rid of a civil servant.

I think they're just the same ;)

A government should be democratically elected. A mafia family may rule through fear and exploitation.

omg u twat, i thot that was a joke

correct but its not so much the government but people of significants in it , they are placed in these positions by a powerful global group that does follow a sick ideology . every president or priminister in every so called civilised country is pushing the agenda of the new world order , they are gangsters yet they take it to a much higher level .

Well, at least the family talk to each other & don't make as many c*ckups.

your not wrong in the slightest we put up with day in and day out when they tell us that they are doing things for our own good!

well i cant think of one thing they could have possibly done for me that i can perceive as good

if i was in a possession of trust say a doctor and i turned round and said hey sorry people but Ive left a CD with all your medical records on the bus i would get what? sacked sued probably that and more but hey give me a title stick me in a Parliament job and then pat me on the back and tell me we all make mistakes and these things happen

its b*******

there both out for the kill

The clothes they wear?

the government has a better retirement package.

I like the analogy. But the government is simply more efficient.

Mafia: Protection, racketeering, extortion and robbery

Government: Taxes

No you are actually right..

The Mafia has clear rules, follows procedure, and is run more efficiently.

I believe the main difference would be one is a government and one is a family.

In other words, the organized crime family would be a family organized to do criminal activity.

A government would would be a group, not neccessarily a family, organized to do government activity.

It's really pretty simple. I don't understand why you would struggle with understanding the difference between them?

Maybe your struggle is with the similarity of the two.

Think of it this way!

Would you struggle seeing any difference between someone with a persistent cough smoking cigarettes and a heroin addict?
