Can the government find out how much is in your bank account?

If the governmnet calls your bank asks them how much is in your bank accout, will your bank tell them.

Or can the government call the bank and find out details about your last bank statement? Will the banks tell them?

Yes, the IRS reviews your bank records during an audit. In everyday lives, the government calls on the "Patriot Act" that came into law or whatever shortly after Sept 11. This was to try to weed out suspicious financial transactions that might be tied to terror organizations.

yes

the government owns you

they sure can

Unfortunately yes but mostly for bank accounts exceeding $10,000 the IRS has particular interest. In addition, any check received for >$10,000 is reported to the IRS, one dollar less it isn't. The government under the United States Patriot Act can subpoena any information such as bank accounts, which hotels you've been, your spending habits. It's unfortunate. There are ways that are in the 'gray' legal area to keep the government with a big interest in your financial interests but seek a tax attorney for this.

YES!

THEY CAN FIND OUT ANYTHING THEY WANT!

only by request of fbi , irs or if you are in some legal issues with law/ criminal case

It has to be more official than just any government employee calling them up.

They have to have probable cause & I think get a warrant.

However, if you do ANY kind of CASH transaction that is $10,000 or more, the bank by law has to fill out paperwork reporting this to the federal government.

This is how they track & start investigations that (they hope) will lead to catching drug dealers and mobsters.

the government can do anything....they control all! except for me....no one really knows how to do that anymore.

Have You ever heard about "State Bank" or "Central Bank" it is the government bank which make the rule and regulations for a bank to run in a country, and all banks have to answer to it, if they ask for a particular account for a person or company they have to provide the details.

Yes!

If you have a stack of money which you want to keep "safe" you can open a "swiss' bank account, that's what really filthy rich people do to avoid paying tax etc, or crims when they have so much dosh that they want to "hide" the money.

As far as i know absolutely nobody is allowed access to your Swiss bank account details, even the police.

well duh the bank is a goverment run opperation

Bank accounts, phone records, emails, IMs are all subject to legal inquiry if there is probable cause. If you want to keep money so it is not subject to scrutiny use your mattress.

Swiss banks have been reporting accounts to the feds since FINCEN.

Before the Patriot Act there was FINCEN
