How many people think Big government liberals are fascist deep down?

I read a book called liberal fascism and it explained to me everything why modern liberals are the way they are because most of their big government ideas came from the fascist ideas that emerged in the beginning of the twentieth century. It explains why they want to ban smoking and fast foods and have a irrational fear that anyone that has christian values wants to force them to join. There whole belief structer resolves around the idea that government has the power to shape our lives and society into whatever form the government wants it to be.

I think liberals like big government.

You must be reading the same stuff Glenn Beck reads. He exposes the same kind of question on his blog. There will always been grass root campaigns that get funded and succeed. Tobacco built this country and look what they've done to that. Fast food establishments filled a void for our fast paced lives. With the price of fuel and gas we won't have to worry about shutting them down now will we? We are all broke while the government continually bails our corporate America at our expense. Isn't that facism?

Well everybody loves to call names, as we all know.

But historically it's the right wingers who've supported fascism. Openly.

Yes and they do this through "union" media, "union" Hollywood, "Union" teachers and professors.

Don't believe everything you read, especially if it's written by people like Ann Coulter. Develop your critical thinking skills by researching what you've read. Investigate several sources. If you have at least average intelligence, you ought to be able to discover what fascism is. Delve a little deeper into history.

You will find that Prescott Bush, our current president's grandfather, openly supported and financed Adolf Hitler - until he was basically ordered by our government to stop.

If you analyze fascism operationalized, you will discover that one of their tactics was to use fear in order to "shape" public opinion and basically, get people to do what they (the fascists) wanted them to do.

This is exactly what the Republican Party, via Bush and Cheney, did after 9/11. They used fear to mobilize the masses [of American people] behind them, and this administration used that fear to manipulate good and decent American citizens into freely giveing away their freedom/s, as well as shape their beliefs.

You do not see this kind of behavior to this drastic extent within the Democratic Party. The problem with Democrats is that they're kind of slow to catch on...as well as catch up.

Decades ago the Republican Party started using their think tanks to devise how to best shape public opinion through language. They've been very successful at their own brand of smoke and mirrors. They've learned how to manipulate language, they've learned how to say one thing and do another and get away with it (no small feat), and they've succeeded largely because the Republicans have so chipped away at funding for education that the have quite succeeded in the "dumbing down" of the American citizenry.

Liberals do not support big government. That's another myth that the Republican conservatives have foisted upon the American public, and apparently citizens are still buying that one - hook, line and sinker.

Actually, the Republicans have presided over the largest governments in history. Reagan was a builder of big government. Bill Clinton greatly pared down the government he inherited from Bush the elder, only to have G.W. Bush grow an even bigger one; he now presides over the largest government to date.

Democrats have more of a "waste not, want not" philosophy. I don't know that liberals necessarily want to ban smoking and fast food, but in terms of trying to save people's lives....smoking kills people and so does fast food, in terms of clogged arteries, heart attacks and obesity.

C'mon, some of this is no-brainer stuff! If someone wants to kill themselves by smoking, fine, but don't take me with you! As far as fast food goes, I think anyone who makes a steady diet of McDonald's is stupid, but I guess that's their decision. Unfortunately, many poor people can't afford to eat anywhere else. I can remember a time before fast food, and I can attest to the fact that fast food probably should be outlawed! Bring back the neighborhood diners and luncheonettes where the food was home-cooked and not full of preservatives. You used to be able to get a REAL meal, i.e., meat, veggies, bread, drink, and dessert, for less than $5. Then came fast food, and the real deal went out the window. So, I'm with the so-called liberals on those two issues. But I have to say that I know alot of conservatives that feel the same way, so I don't necessary agree that it's just a "liberal" thing.

And as long as you've brought up Christian values, let's explore that a little bit. What are Christian values? Would you say that these are values espoused by God? And who do you listen to the most - God, Dobson, or Robertson? Whose books do you read? Do you read the Bible?

Because as a Christian, I have read much of the Old Testament and I've read the New Testament many times over. When I look at the character of Jesus, and the character of the Sadducees and Pharisees, as well as the Jewish religious leaders and the Roman leaders, I see a very familiar pattern. I have read the words of Jesus many times. Jesus was compassionate, always stood up for the underdog, and really had a dislike for the very rich and for self-professed religous people who made sure everyone heard their prayers. Jesus constantly and continuously disobeyed those in authority. He habitually rebuked the cruel and the rich. He hated disrespect and arrogance. Time after time He reminded us not to judge others. Throughout the Bible, the main theme is that of hellping those who have less. Poverty is mentioned everywhere in the Bible. Jesus said we are to care for the poor, the oppressed, the widow, the orphan, and the sick. Does any of this sound familiar?

Now, which people do a better job of this than others? SOME Christians, yes, but not many. Politically, Democrats do a much better job of adhering to Christian principles than Replicans have ever done. Republicans do a great job of judging, though. Of course, that was

A Day in the Life of Joe Republican

Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards. With his first swallow of water, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to ensure their safety and that they work as advertised.

All but $10 of his medications are paid for by his employer's medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance - now Joe gets it too.

He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe's bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.

In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained.

Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for the laws to stop industries from polluting our air.

He walks on the government-provided sidewalk to subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.

Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe's employer pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union.

If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he'll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some stupid liberal didn't think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune.

It is noontime and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some godless liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the Great Depression.

Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime. Joe also forgets that his in addition to his federally subsidized student loans, he attended a state funded university.

Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal fought for car safety standards to go along with the tax-payer funded roads.

He arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers' Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans.

The house didn't have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification.

He is happy to see his father, who is now retired. His father lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, cheese-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn't have to

Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. He doesn't mention that the beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day. Joe agrees: "We don't need those big-government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I'm a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have."
