What can the government do to reduce poverty in a city? What level of government should handle it?

What can the government do to reduce poverty in a city? What level of government should handle it? What should this level of government do?

convert to communism

This is a state problem.

Go through all the questions and answers and you'll find 17 year girls pregnant whining that no one will help them. Then they want welfare.

This is the first round of government creating welfare.

IF THESE PEOPLE WERE TOLD: You're on your own and I have my kids they would make different decisions.

I have no pity for this sort of poverty.

My parents didn't have the aid of government, welfare, food stamps.

They had to pay for everything with their jobs.

Actually the only way is to find a way to increase jobs as there are many impoverished people willing to work.

But poverty can only be reduced to an extent, because if you payed for food, clothing and shelter for those who do not have it..In two years you would have double the amount to take care of ,as people are always looking for and easy way out.

In four years triple...etc.etc.

Jobs are the only answer, and we dont make anything in this country anymore, so i think were pretty screwed.

The government can do little to alleviate poverty. They can not legislate passion, self discipline, and morals. All of which are required to elevate one out of poverty. All they can do is provide charity.

Offer incentives for businesses to offset high taxes in urban areas. Also, and this is long term, equalize education. Urban schools are always underfunded. Every school should be funded equally, per student.

It's not the governments job to reduce poverty. They need to get rid of welfare and force those people off their butts and out to get a joB!
