What are some suggestions to reduce government?

In my opinion, I personally think that reducing government will reduce corruption and bloated departments. What are other suggestions to reduce the size and scope of government? Thanks.

We began with the Declaration of Independence, an announcement to a decent but misguided king that we had relieved him of his control over us.

That document COULD have been scathing, belligerent and insulting. It was quite the opposite: "...a decent respect to the Opinions of Mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the Separation..."

Hence, our first action should be to respectfully explain to each of our representatives and senators the reasons we will be relieving them of the responsibilities of servitude in Our governance.

Second, we must accept without bias the failings of a two-party system that has come to behave as an entity of single-minded MIS-representation.

Third, prepare for sweeping changes in government as new servants take up the yoke of restoring Constitutional restraint, order, minimal control, establishing once again, a People with a Government and not the other way around.

Fourth, elect a Congress from among the most conscientious candidates of the 435 districts, each of whom shall have sworn by affidavit and public promise that they will serve with unwavering courage and diligence in the duties entrusted them.

Finally, demand nothing less than an amendment granting the People the power to veto any item of any law, past, present and future if a significant majority of the Citizenry find that item or law to be unconscionable.

Eliminate the farm bill entirely. It costs us 300 billion dollars, or about 3% of what we earn, and it makes food more expensive. It also hurts small farmers.

Eliminate the production of gas through ethanol. It makes groceries more expensive.

Restructure the intelligence agencies into one agency to facilitate intelligence sharing, and reduce duplication of jobs and waste. We have to get serious about intelligence in this new era of terrorism. We need more foreign agents and we cannot have competition and dislike between the different branches.

Make taxes simple enough to write on a postcard. This will prevent many political kickbacks that come in the form of tax breaks and save us 3% of GDP by my informed estimate.

There is so much more i could cut, but in just two minutes i have made us all 6% richer and lowered the price of food. If all of those accountants get new jobs doing something useful, then i have made us 9% richer. Thats enough to start another two wars like Iraq and Afghanistan. Or for people to pay their bills.

Reduce it to what? To an ineffectual entity who outsources disaster preparation to outside contractors, can't find New Orleans on a map because all the good employees left when their jobs started being outsourced, and then dumps money into 100 billion failed reconstruction attempts in New Orleans?

Check.

An entity who lets our bridges and roads fall into disrepair?

Check.

An entity who outsources "security" to private mercenairies whose numbers match military troop strenght during military occupations?

Check.

Have a president who has the political fortitude to veto stupid appropriations bills. When Congress passes their yearly budget bill. The president should veto the budget, and continue to do so until Congress passes something acceptable. The government just won't function until Congress decides to co-operate or they override the veto.

The two biggest areas of government are defense and entitlement (Social Security and Medicare). These make up 80% of the budget. 8% is spent on interest on the national debt. That leaves 12% for everything else.

Some areas that could be cut that would actually make a diference:

* Cut back spending on defense contractors who are paid 4-5x what military personnel are paid

* Limit Social Security benefits to people who paid into the system.

I think your right. in the next election we can vote the two parties out and start with new people with the understanding that the power should go back to the states and if they don't go along we'll vote them out next time. they'll probably believe it since that's how they got in.

Unfortunately these dumb Americans here will vote the same parties in expecting something different. what do you call that when you do the same thing over and over and expect some different result?

Get rid of the empire - we can't afford it anyhow. Get rid of the federal dept of education (should be a state and local matter since individuals are best represented at the local level.) Get rid of the dept of homeland security - like we need another agency... Get rid of the IRS.... Get rid of everything not enumerated in the Constitution.

Retake local government first, and do your best to gradually inform the rest of the population that both parties are controlled by the same globalist groups (i.e. the CFR). It is the illusion of choice that has crippled us as a population.

Hopefully, the popular backlash against the Republicrat Duopoly will shake things up for long enough to get some honest-to-God American Constitutionalists into DC, and they can start to undo some of the damage the globalists have done over the last few decades.

If that fails, armed revolution will be the only remaining recourse.

Option C. would be to accept that the republic we once knew is dead, and try to get used to living in a corporatist technocracy that will make 1984 look tame by comparison.

Cheers :)

Do not play their game. Reject the corporate philosophy and greed. Think outside the box. Get out of the crowded urban areas, become self reliant and grow your own food. Just reject the advertising and bs that perpetuates their bs system. Do not buy their goods and services. Reject their values and their dreams. They will dry up and blow away. They did it on their own a long time ago and you can do it, too.

Bush had the right idea when he took office in 2001. Cut all programs that have a higher cost than benefit.

I don't know what happened to that idea, or if he just set the bar really low, because I see a lot of crap in our federal budget that we don't need.

One of the first things I would cut are about 95% of state and local earmarks, even the legitimate ones. If the state wants it, they can pay for it. (Wait, someone else famous said that once...)

Find some honest people who will speak up and do the right thing. Many of them think it is good manners to be politically correct. They practice the Good Ol Boy technique you know, you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours. It is the only way to survive in politics.

We have become a nation of loop hole seekers to get instant gradification..Lets use some restraint.

Like a map or jigsaw puzzle you have to break it into tiny portions then make SOMEONE ACCOUNTABLE.

Educating our youth about fiscal issues and truthfulness and responsibility would be a start.

No taxation without representation would be a start locally as cities gobble up surrounding properties but offer no benifits or services.

Health care is holding Americans prisoners. Fix it. It is a monster.

Welfare, like unions, started out as a kind humanitarian act which has sapped the self esteem of Americans of all ages. Young childbearing women as well as the elderly not getting married so they can get a bigger check from Uncle Sam. They learned if you say you were drunk and don't know who the father of their child is, then they leave the guy alone and get their check from Uncle Sam. It is easier to watch TV and get a free check in the mail than find a job where you have to get up every morning, feed the kids and get yourself busy. What a hard life!

The overcrowded prisons in America is an atrocity. We can't afford to feed so many in the nation for a lifetime. Our justice system is better that many other countries but we are failing miserably with all the plea bargining and who the hell cares if they really did it just hurry up and get somebody locked up,,we got a long waiting line out there! Then when the prison can't hold anymore just dump a few out and cram more in. They return you say, then how does it not make sense to rehab these people back into society so they can pay the $900.00 rent on minimum wage if they can get and/or keep a job. Would you hire them friend?

In the South they say our foodball statiums are larger than colleges in the East. School and sports activities are paid for with our taxes. It's like using the rent money to buy a shorgun for hunting. I think sports are important but maybe we have lost perspective with education being the primary goal.

Outsourceing jobs then supporting Americans with government comodities or paying their utilities is a joke.

Why can't we put our heads together and solve real problems. Why do we waste time talking about politics rather than real issues like the deficiet.

Expose the rat bums that are in Congress that had Goldman-Sacks as one of their SIG's (Special Interest Groups) that recieved money for their campaign finances! And expose these thieves in the House for rat-bums that they are so that come November, we can toss them OUT!!!

I am very well pleased that the FBI is stepping in!

Don't ask Republicans. They want to buy up every major corporation with a $700 billion blank check. But yet they go and tell everyone that Obama is the one for socialized government. Does that make sense? From what I can tell, the Democrats are the ones against it

1) Read the Constitution

2) Make sure all laws passed adhere to the Constitution

3) When in doubt, go back to step 1)

Fire congress :)

I'm kidding. One way to reduce gov. is to get rid of all the red tape/paper pushers & pencil sharpeners.

There are programs sucking up money & being wasteful, get rid of them.

I think Senators are paid way too much, and their pay is for life!

Their jobs are not that hard. The current Congress is also overpaid, and they do nothing!

Vote Mickey Mouse into office. That would be a good start.

A revolution.

By getting out of the UN and stopping all foreign aide

Line Item Veto !

At this point it is impossible. There is one option but we are too divided.

vote Libertarian

after the heller supreme court ruling, disband the BATFE

Impeach Bush...that's a start.

Great question! Let's consult Obama and McCain.

Oh wait.....

After the past 7 years I don't even know where to begin. I hope that you get some good answers.

less taxes, no patriot act.....are good starts

Get rid of the wasteful pork barrel spending the Democrats (like Biden) are so fond of.
