How long does it take the government to approve security clearance for a job?

I recently landed a job with the government (federal). I need to obtain secret clearance. I am anxious to work, but how long is it going to take them to clear me?

Don't know exactly...I worked for a place that required clearancesand some took weeks and some took months. I guess it depends on the level of the clearance and your personal background. A cleaner background is usually quicker.

Depends on the job. From 2 weeks to 6 months.

The higher the clearance the longer it takes.
