How can we encourage the government to give bigger tax brakes to hybrid car-owners?

The cost of a new hybrid car is too prohibitive for most people to consider it, but I think the government should be able to step in and make it easier.

You can approach this a few different ways:

* Write to your local MP

* Write to your Prime Minister (or equivalent Head of State)

* Start a petition and get your friends, family and neighbours to sign up. Forward it to your MP

* Write to your local newspaper

* Contact your local car dealership and give them some ideas

* Contact dealerships with a proposal

Yeah the government should buy one for everyone

I don't think we need a more complicated tax code. Nor do we need to begiving handouts to people that own a "special product" If you can't afford it, I don't want to be paying your taxes for you. Fricken liberals! You want a inexpensive car to own and maintain? Many econoboxes made in the late 80's and early 90's get the same milage as the hybrids. Plus they cost 10 times less. Insurance is almost nothing.

The problem is we americans are over indulged by wealth. The only people who can afford the new cars are those who are wealthy, who want bigger cars for image(boxy), overpowered, and oversized. The smallest vehicle for chevrolet is the 2550 pound Aveo. Plus with is SUV devrived hieght, its not very "areo" dynamic.

We need

The best way to make it easier for consumers to buy hybrid vehicles is to make the auto industry make them more affordable. This could be done rather easily if they would reduce the number of makes and models. As far as I'm concerned, every vehicle model should have a hybrid and diesel counterpart. Also, the government should start taxing the vehicle manufacturers a premium of 30% starting in 5 years for any vehicle not exceeding a combination mpg of at least 38.As a bonus, for every hybrid car they sell they should get a taxbreak or an offset to the 30%premium.Wanna see affordable hybrids fast?Pass this bill and watch the explosion of almost immediate technology magically appear. Also, how about a 30% tax break across the board a year for every hybrid car owner, per car. That's right, buy 3 hybrids and pay 90% less taxes for every year you own it.That's fair to me because then people will want them, the automakers will make them, jobs will increase along with the enviroment and everyones wallets. The oil companies will never change so screw them and find an alternative solution.I believe this is it.Take care.
