What should the government do about General Motors being in serious financial trouble?

Should the government take over GM?

Shoud the government loan GM billions to keep operating?

Or should the government let GM go broke and shut down?

They should do nothing.

Taking responsibility for private businesses is not a role of the federal government.

In theory yes, the government could afford to bailout GM it should. However, when you read the news you find the government already gave GM a huge grant less than a year ago. Another grant now to try and bail them out will just delay the problem another 12 months. So it is just to let capitalism follow its course for now, and try to find ways to help the automobile industry in general. So who-ever buys up GM can form a sound business plan.

Several times since the 70's they have been bailed out by the govt. I say it's time they either get with the times and make something the people want or go bust.

With all these bail outs the govt' has given the automakers they may as well make them govt controlled businesses.

Offer GM a bridge loan to continue operations until things pick up and financing is more readily available. The impact of losing GM would be more devastating to our economy than anything we have seen thus far.

GM should declare war on the USA , then the US government will pour all kinds of money into GM to rebuild
